Three steps
- Click the referral link first — open this link before starting your quote. The £50 credit attaches to your session. Don't start from the Octopus homepage separately.
- Complete the switch in one session — finish sign-up through the same journey the referral link started. If you abandon and come back via a different route, the referral may not attach.
- Credit arrives after switch completes — typically a few weeks after your supply starts with Octopus. Both you and the referrer get £50.
What to check first
- Compare the tariff rate against your current supplier, not just the £50 bonus
- Check exit fees from your current supplier (Octopus has none on variable tariffs)
- You'll need a smart meter for Agile, Tracker, Go, Flux, or Cosy — Octopus installs them free
- Dual fuel or single fuel — you can switch just electricity, just gas, or both
Common mistakes
- Starting from the Octopus homepage instead of the referral link
- Closing the browser and starting a new quote session
- Using a browser with strict ad blocking that strips referral tracking
- Switching business energy rather than home energy
What if the £50 doesn't arrive?
